Week 23 Veggie List & Ideas

Basket of Three Red and Green Tomatoes
Ripe Heirloom Tomatoes
September is here, warm and golden. At last the weather on the central CA coast is warm…for a few weeks, we hope. The first of our CSA’s Gala apples are in, and they taste like sweet ambrosia. Our own apple tree is producing tart apples of an unknown variety (we’ve only been here since last Nov.) I’d like to try to duplicate my long-deceased grandmother’s apple cake, and looks like there will be plenty of apples to try with different recipes. Bumper crop of tomatoes (finally ripe after a cool summer) is perfect for pasta sauce variations. Recipes to be posted soon!

I tried making the carrot pancakes last week. They tasted good but texture left something to be desired. Back to the drawing (or perhaps the cutting) board!

This week’s veggies:

Gala apples
Asian stir-fry mix
Green beans
Summer squash
Sweet peppers
Dry-farmed tomatoes (lots!)
Sungold cherry tomatoes

Leftovers: basil, carrots, beets, bacon, spaghetti and homemade sauce, zucchini, large onion

Salad: radish, carrot, lettuce, cherry tomatoes

Simply steam: chard, summer squash, green beans

Potato salad for Labor Day, maybe with cherry tomatoes

Pasta with peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, and onion

Preserved basil: dry, freeze?

Basil-orange chocolate truffles

Apple cake?

Carrots with wheat germ? Or try carrot pancakes again?
